  • From textbooks to tests: An accessible evaluation environment opened up by QTI and PNP Murata
  • PNP expansion and QR code integration utilizing knowledge of Japanese DAISY textbooks Kudo
  • Creating questions with Yasashi QTI and running PNP-compatible tests with Amp-up Player Li

The accessibility of textbooks in Japan has been pioneered by DAISY textbooks, which the Japan DAISY Consortium has worked on for many years. They are being introduced in schools nationwide, and it is becoming a reality to provide teaching materials with functions such as ruby display, voice reading, and text size adjustment. Through these efforts, trials and implementations toward realizing an accessible learning environment are steadily progressing. On the other hand, accessibility in Computer-Based Testing (CBT), a method of computer testing, is an area that has hardly been discussed or practiced in Japan. In Europe, accessibility of CBT is already considered an important social issue, and it has been pointed out that non-compliant CBTs may be subject to lawsuits under the European Accessibility Act (EAA) that will come into effect in 2025.

In this seminar, we will introduce international trends in accessibility in CBT and the specific feasibility of doing so in Japan. In particular, we will introduce an overview of the "PNP (Personal Needs and Preferences)" specification, which automatically adjusts the font size, color scheme, line spacing, etc. of the test screen for test takers with reading difficulties such as dyslexia, and a demo developed under Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research 21H04419 (Principal Investigator: Professor Minamitani, National Center for University Entrance Examinations). We will also introduce the collaboration between YasashiQTI, which allows you to easily create accessible test questions from Word or Excel, and Amp-up player, which provides test-taking that supports PNP.

Speakers:

  • Makoto Murata ( Professor Emeritus at Tohoku International University, Technical Committee Chair of the Japan DAISY Consortium)
  • Tomoyuki Kudo (CEO of Cypac, Technical Committee Member of the Japan DAISY Consortium
  • Jaebum Lee (CTO, Director, NetLearning Holdings)
