Job Requisition

EdTech Open Standards Product Engineer

We are looking for a standards engineer with experience in education or learning technologies to support our members and products—1EdTech's open interoperability standards.

In partnership with a program manager within a workgroup setting, the 1EdTech standards product engineer assists with the collection of interoperability requirements, developing and publishing data interoperability specifications, data models, and API definitions based on members' needs. The product engineer also develops unit test solutions and assists with certification tool development.

The selected candidate will have a working knowledge of 1EdTech standards and develop in Java and related tools. Experience in commercial or education product development is a plus. Knowledge of common development tools, such as OpenAPI, Swagger, and GitHub, is expected.

The successful candidate will be able to contribute technical topics in project workgroups, provide consultative technical support to members implementing the standards, and demonstrate the software development skills needed to create and update software libraries and tools members need for successful integrations, including explaining the use of the standards to implement priority market use cases.

The product engineer should effectively communicate technical details to technical and non-technical audiences in verbal, written, and formal presentations, including to 1EdTech's Technical Advisory Board. The product engineer will collaborate with the product manager and 1EdTech architect to ensure evolving standards integrate with other 1EdTech standards and practices in a cohesive educational technology ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in and developing standard specifications, implementation guides, and compliance instructions in your assigned area of responsibility as well as contributing to the requirements and development of software reference implementations and the conformance certification software suite(s), which help members more quickly implement 1EdTech standards 
  • Participate in the technical review of member contributions to standards development in the regular project working groups and task forces
  • Advance possible solutions to interoperability challenges
  • Assist with consensus-based best practices and the creation of member-contributed developer guides and contribute with authoring and editing of the documents
  • Adopt an agile method of development to publish minimal viable products quickly and refine and iterate over time 
  • Provide timely technical guidance and consultation to 1EdTech member organizations to facilitate their understanding, adoption, certification, and implementation testing as needed 
  • Contribute to the 1EdTech support site, knowledge base, and member's forum via frequently asked questions and answers, including responding to 1EdTech member-posted questions as a Level-3 contributor 
  • Support a community of developers and implementers via active collaboration, providing knowledge and tools to grow and foster community participation by members 
  • Collaborate with the assigned program manager responsible for organizing workgroups, planning and communicating workgroup activities  
  • Provide member training and bootcamps to help speed adoption and implementations 
  • Occasionally represent 1EdTech at various meetings and conferences as agreed in advance 
  • Help to grow and provide direction for future 1EdTech standards development 
  • Work closely with colleagues on the 1EdTech staff and attend weekly staff calls 
  • Maintain member confidential information, including technical specification details, before public release 

Location: Remote, 40 hours/week (regular hours based on U.S. Eastern Time zone ); may require travel 3-4 times per year to 1EdTech events and member meetings (primarily in the U.S.)

Front-End / Full Stack Web Developer

Responsibilities

  • Advance the user-experience development for our new certification and conformance web tools.

  • Maintain and enhance the user experience for our existing web-based applications.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Previous work in edtech (digital teaching and learning)

  • React & Redux knowledge necessary

  • Understanding of Docker, containerization, and cloud-based software and services

  • Understanding of service-based architectures and the development of software against REST APIs

  • Understanding of SQL and databases (ideally MySQL)

  • Understanding of the software and systems lifecycle

  • Understanding of Git and CI/CD processes

  • Understanding of software authentication methods and practices, specifically OAuth2, and general knowledge of software security

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Able to work with a large degree of autonomy

  • Knowledge of GraphQL is preferred

  • Knowledge of design patterns and systems like Figma preferred

  • End-to-end Testing with Cypress preferred

Education/Experience: A minimum of 1 to 2 years in a front-end or full-stack developer role at an edtech organization or undergraduate degree (BA) in web design, web development, or a related field with internship or field experience.

Job Requisition

QA / Support Specialist

1EdTech is looking for an experienced and independent QA / Support Specialist to join our development team. This position is 100% remote, working as part of a small, multi-functional team. You must have education technology experience, be confident at working alone, be a self-starter, be willing to ask questions and join the dots to deliver mission-critical solutions aligned to the organization’s roadmap, business goals, and timeframe.

QA Responsibilities

  • Create, maintain, and execute test plans, test cases, and test reports

  • Work closely with the development team and product team to ensure quality acceptance criteria are met

  • Ensure efficient documentation and tracking of issues to improve the quality of our web applications

  • Research and recommend innovative approaches for quality assurance tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale

Support Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first line of contact for members with application issues

  • Investigate and resolve issues raised by members in a timely manner

  • Collaborate with staff to research and resolve problems

  • Document issues and resolutions for both internal and external use

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree desired

  • Testing certification desired

  • 2-3 years of related edtech (digital teaching and learning) industry experience

Technical Standards Architect

We have an opening for a technical standards architect to join the 1EdTech team of professionals.

Collaborating with product engineering leaders in the edtech market, in partnership with a program manager within a workgroup setting, the 1EdTech standards architect takes the lead in organizing interoperability requirements and developing and publishing data interoperability specifications, data models, and API definitions based on members' needs.

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of 1EdTech and other technology standards. Experience in commercial product development is also a big plus.

The successful candidate will be able to lead technical topics in project workgroups, possess the skills to provide consultative technical support to members implementing the standards, and demonstrate the software development skills needed to create and update software libraries and tools members need for successful integrations, including explaining the use of the standards to implement priority market use cases.

The selected architect should be able to effectively communicate technical details to technical and non-technical audiences verbally, in writing, and in presentations. The architect will ensure the standards within their leadership are integrated with other 1EdTech standards and practices in a cohesive educational technology ecosystem.

Job Type: Full-time

  • Provide, on average, a minimum of 40 hours of work to 1EdTech per week in the performance of the above services
  • Normal hours of operation are based on the U.S. Eastern time zone

Travel: 3-4 times per year to attend 1EdTech-hosted meetings in locations primarily in the United States. Other periodic and incidental travel may also be necessary.
