The LTI Resource Search standard helps teachers and students access their digital learning resources in resource libraries from their learning platforms.
Users can search for their digital learning resources via URLs or LTI links in their learning object repositories (LORs) and other learning tool repositories based on their needs. Learning resources can be tagged with various metadata or tags, such as grade level, keywords, and/or academic learning standards.
LTI Resource Search works with some of the other 1EdTech standards in the ecosystem, such as LTI, Common Cartridge®, and CASE®.
LTI Resource Search can:
- Be delivered by a URL or an (LTI) link
- Search items within a cartridge of content (Common Cartridge/Thin Common Cartridge)
- Search for academic learning standards (CASE)
- Educators and students can easily search and locate digital learning resources in platforms and tool libraries.
Technical Overview
The LTI Resource Search specification defines how to search digital repositories for a set of resources using REST API exchange. Searches can be made in learning object repositories (LORs) and other applications and tools with catalogs of learning resources. The searches from learning applications and tools can use various attributes of resources and return full metadata about the resources to the learning tools.
The search results can be launched as either:
- URLs
- LTI links
LTI Resource Search Provides Users the Ability to:
- Start the search from the learning platform using filters to identify a collection of resources
- Use specific search criteria and metadata
- Find one learning resource or a collection of learning objects based on the specified criteria (CASE GUIDs, topic, language, digital format, etc.)
- Searches can include resources from one or more providers, depending on the learning object repository (LOR) capabilities
The search results could provide the following information such as:
- Title
- Description
- Keyword
- CASE standards alignment
- URL or LTI link
- Rating
- Resource type (test, content, activity/practice)
- Language complexity
- Format (PDF, CC, media)
There are two roles/actors in the LTI Resource Search specification:
- Search Consumers make the search request
- Search Providers respond to the request with the search results
