A Hands-On How To: Research, Vet, and Procure the Right Edtech for Your Ecosystem

The use of technology that allows for flexible learning experiences and data-driven improvement is the key to student success. However, educational institutions may face challenges in navigating the edtech landscape to find the right solutions that support their mission and students. We are here to introduce you to resources that can assist you in adopting trusted technology, which will give you an advantage in supporting academic quality and meeting institutional requirements for third-party platform providers and procurement agreements. By participating in this workshop, you will craft an implementation plan that promotes a culture of innovation within your educational technology ecosystem while also upholding robust security measures and maintaining the trust of students, faculty, and administrators. This workshop will provide strategies for balancing exploration with risk management and encouraging collaboration while prioritizing data privacy.

Presenters:

  • Daysi Hart, Business Relationship Manager, Central Piedmont Community College
  • Kelly Hoyland, Director, Higher Education Programs, 1EdTech
  • Jeremy Miller, Associate CIO & Assistant Vice President of Enterprise Systems, Kentucky Community & Technical College System

It's a Party! Invite the Right Guests So You Can Offer Innovative Digital Credentials

Join us for a session focused on the solutions and exemplars in the learning and employment record space gleaned from the Learning and Employment Record (LER) Accelerator project. The team will share some practical solutions to common problems in the implementation and use of LERs, followed by a panel of representatives from leading higher education associations who will reflect on the solutions and offer up insights on how they impact their respective stakeholder groups. Attendees will leave the session (part presentation, part lively discussion) and the conference with a better understanding of how credentials and LERs can impact higher education at large and how IT can contribute.

Presenters:

  • Kelly Hoyland, Director, Higher Education Programs, 1EdTech
  • Kathe Pelletier, Senior Director, Community Programs, EDUCAUSE

Breakout Session  |  Wednesday, October 23  |  10:15-11:00 AM

Mirrors of Data: Identify the Changes Needed and Make Them!

The future of education is highly reliant on technology to deliver, assess, and support learning and improvement. Yet across higher ed today, there are multiple bottlenecks within technology infrastructures. These include disparate solutions not “talking to each other,” an inability to unlock data for meaningful reporting, and data “collecting dust” instead of being activated for improvement. Creating and maintaining a culture for improvement means that you have a process to collect and use assessment practices that matter. Learn from institutional leaders who have developed proven methods for using data to improve academic quality through the lens of faculty and student engagement.

Presenters:

  • Suzanne Carbonaro, Director, Higher Education Programs, 1EdTech
  • Kevin Corcoran, Assistant Vice Provost, Center for Distributed Learning, University of Central Florida
  • Loren Malm, Vice President for Information Technology and CIO, Ball State University
  • Steven Williams, Principal Product Manager, Academic Technology, UCLA
