Connecting Education & Workforce Systems: Collaboration Across 1EdTech & NASWA Communities
State leaders are increasingly signaling that the future of workforce development, secondary and postsecondary education, and industry alignment depends on integrating systems and strategies. Recent developments—including expanded flexibility in Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) implementation, the rollout of Workforce Pell, and state-driven initiatives such as the development of talent marketplaces —reflect a growing emphasis on modernizing technology infrastructure within state workforce systems to support industry-aligned training, learner mobility, skills transparency, and cross-sector coordination.
Interoperability is a critical enabler of this work as states seek to expand industry-aligned training opportunities while strengthening quality assurance and labor market outcomes. Shared technology and data standards provide the foundation needed to implement these strategies efficiently and reduce fragmentation, helping learners navigate flexible, affordable pathways aligned with employer needs.
Presented through the partnership between NASWA and 1EdTech, and coordinated by the Workforce IT Support Center (WITSC), this webinar will explore how interoperability standards act as the connective tissue across institutions, agencies, and state lines.
